3/11/2010 – Investigation opened inquiring whether Lori Belgarde has violated Iowa campaign law

WAUKEE, IOWA – The Iowa Board of Ethics has opened an investigation of Lori Belgarde and will consider taking action due to her failure to file a DR-1 form or a DR-SFA form. At the Dallas County GOP Convention on March 5 & 6, Belgarde promoted her campaign with both her website & campaign literature, both indicating they are paid for by the Committee to Elect Lori Belgarde. After a review of the Iowa Campaign & Discloser Boards website, and a conversation with Iowa Ethics staff, it was confirmed that Belgarde has not registered a campaign committee. Her materials are in possible violation of Iowa Campaign Law.Chad Airhart, a Republican candidate for Dallas County Recorder, and Belgarde’s primary opponent said, “The organizing of a campaign committee is a simple task to complete. One of two forms would have allowed my opponent the ability to use the paid for by attribution on her materials. If my opponent cannot follow one of the simplest campaign laws, and complete a one page form, I think the voters of Dallas County need to question whether she is capable of following the laws governing the Recorders office, and if she can manage vital records and documents related to Dallas County.”Read full story here: http://www.iowapolitics.com/index.iml?Article=188466
